From Tampa to Africa: Laser Locators Supports Ophthalmology
At Laser Locators, our mission extends far beyond providing refurbished ophthalmic lasers. We believe in creating a global impact by equipping medical professionals with the tools they need to restore sight in every corner of the world.
Partnering for Global Vision Care
Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with Medical Missions Eswatini, an initiative of Global Eye Mission, a 501(c)3 established in 2008, led by Dr. Steven Anderson. This organization is actively transforming lives through ophthalmology outreach projects in two Southern African countries: Eswatini and Mozambique. By providing access to modern ophthalmic technology, their teams are helping bring specialized eye care to populations that might otherwise go without.
Supplying Ophthalmic Lasers to Remote Communities
To help expand their reach, Laser Locators worked closely with the team to make three high-quality refurbished ophthalmic lasers accessible within their nonprofit mission work budget:
- Lumenis Selecta II SLT – Primarily treats open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension by safely lowering eye pressure.
- Nidek YC-1800 YAG Laser – Treats posterior capsule opacification (PCO), also called secondary cataract and used in the treatment or prevention of angle-closure glaucoma.
- Zeiss Visulas 532s — Mainly used to treat diabetic eye disease, retinal tears/detachments, macular edema, and certain types of glaucoma by sealing, stabilizing, or reducing abnormal blood vessels in the eye.
These ophthalmic devices are supporting vision-saving ophthalmology procedures in some of the world’s most remote and disadvantaged communities. In these regions, access to specialized medical technology for ophthalmology is extremely limited.
By delivering advanced ophthalmic equipment, we’re helping ensure that patients can be screened for preventable eye conditions—such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal disease—and receive care plans that provide treatment options and restore vision. For many individuals, this access to ophthalmology services means the difference between losing sight and regaining independence.
A Legacy of Supporting Nonprofits in Ophthalmology
Over the years, Laser Locators has proudly partnered with dozens of nonprofit organizations in the ophthalmology field, helping them manage their ophthalmic equipment needs within the realities of their missionary budgets. And we’ll proudly state that this will not be the last time we do our part to help those less fortunate gain access to advanced ophthalmology care.
For us, it’s not just about equipment—it’s about empowering ophthalmologists, supporting missions, and making advanced eye care possible in places where it’s needed most. By ensuring the availability of reliable ophthalmic technology, we’re proud to stand alongside organizations like Medical Missions Eswatini in building healthier futures.
